Ponaganset 2 Johnston 1 in Division III R.I. Semi-Finals Schoolboy Hockey

Opening game at Levy Rink in Harrisville R.I. featured Ponaganset High 2nd place regular season at 13-2 facing a Johnston/No./Providence co/op who was in the 4th spot during the regular season at 8-4 The rink was spotless and the ice surface was manicured by the excellent staff and I think it was the fastest ice that I have seen this year. Start time 6:05pm

Ponaganset scored first in the first period with a nice goal from a defenseman #17 Ethan Seaderback who had garnered 12 goals in the regular season. Assists went to team scoring leader #21 Nate Morin and a second assist to #19 Caine on the power play man advantage.
In the second period Ponaganset extended their lead to 2-0 on the power play with #19 Caine's scoring on a pretty play. At the halfway point of the game with a whistle for an off side Ponaganset changed goalies form the starter #1 Tyler Petrella to #33 Curtis Briggs and the coach used his entire bench.
Johnston had their chances throughout the contest and closed the gap to one goal when #11 Threshier scored a few seconds after a faceoff. Threshier a senior forward accumulated 6 goals during the regular season for the team. The lone assist went to #9 DeCosta who had 12 total points during the 2015 campaign.
This best of three series moves to the R.I. Sports Center on 3/21/15 and my guess is that Johnston / No. Providence will tie it up for a game three on Monday. Final shots on goal were Johnston/ No. Providence 29 and Ponaganset 20. Wayne G. Barber Story and photo credits.
