Heat Turned Up on Kettle !

Posted by Wayne G. Barber

COVENTRY, RI — Facing "unfounded" felony sex charges, Nicholas Kettle said he will leave the state Senate and focus on his legal defense. A resignation letter is being delivered to the Senate today, according to news sources. In the brief letter, Kettle said he talked over the situation with his lawyers and family and decided resignation was the course.
He thanked the voters for giving him the opportunity to serve and his supporters. He also criticized the Senate leadership for their failure "to understand the importance of due process."
Kettle has pleaded innocent to the three felony charges he is facing. He is charged with video voyeurism for allegedly sending nude photos of a former girl friend to a childhood pal in New Hampshire. He is also charged with two counts of extortion/ blackmail for allegedly pressuring a former Senate page to have sex with him.

Jerk Coffee ?

Posted by Wayne G. Barber

“One old man, now he was so stingy-this ain’t no joke; it’s a fact-he took coffee beans, and he dried ’em in the stove just about like you’d fix a peanut. Then he took a string and put a hole through several beans of the coffee, put the string through it. Wouldn’t let his wife bother it. Called it “jerk coffee.” Then, he’d hold the coffeepot lid up and hold these beans down in here on this string and let it stay so long. Then he’d jerk it out. Hang it up, let it dry, and use it again.  And that’s what’s called “jerk coffee.” I’d call it water.
It ain’t no joke. I’m a-tellin’ you the truth! Then they got to where they’d save the grounds. They’d buy ’em, make their coffee, and then they’d take ‘e out and put ’em on a board and let ’em dry. They they’d go back and make it again. Which it got very weak towards the last of it.
And that’s the way the thing went, just to tell you the truth. There was a lot of stuff then that people don’t fool with now.”

Do you have a frugal saving item that you would love to share ?

L.L. Bean Forced to Change Return Policy to Stop Rip-Offs by a Few

Posted by Wayne G. Barber

Bought anything from LL Bean in the last year? Not totally happy with it? Return it now. The century-old catalog retailer for outdoorsy types has changed its famously generous return policy: Previously, you could return anything, anytime, no receipt necessary; now you must keep your receipt and take your items back within a year.
As NPR reports, the company blames the change on customers who were taking advantage of the lifetime guarantee. The company wrote:
“Increasingly, a small, but growing number of customers has been interpreting our guarantee well beyond its original intent. Some view it as a lifetime product replacement program, expecting refunds for heavily worn products used over many years. Others seek refunds for products that have been purchased through third parties, such as at yard sales.”’
