Bee Keeping Course for Beginners in February,2015


For those who are interested in learning how to keep bees, but don't know where to start, beginner beekeeping classes are being offered by the Rhode Island Beekeepers Association.
Rhode Island College on Friday mornings; Feb.6,13,20,27 and March 6 from 9;30 am to noon. Instructor is Betty Menucci
Rhode Island College on Saturday mornings; Feb.7,14,21,28 and March 7th from 9:30am till 12:00 noon. The instructor Betty Menucci

URI on Thursday evenings: Feb. 5,12,19,26 and March 5 from 6 to 8 pm The instructors are Molly Therrien and Steve Burke

URI East Farm on Saturday mornings: Feb.7,14,21,28 and March 7th, from 9 to 11 am The instructors are Molly Therrien and Steve Burke.

The cost will cover everything the beginning beekeeper need to know. Subjects will include getting started, the honeybee life cycle, choosing an apiary site, buying bees and equipment, assembly of the hive, installing package bees, catching swarms, nectar sources, bee diseases and pests, hive inspections and wintering.
Beekeeping equipment will be displayed and demonstrated each week.
 The cost of the five week course is only $65.00 per person. This includes all course materials, a text book and membership dues in the Rhode Island Beekeepers Association. Additional family members at the same address may attend for $10.00 each.(In this case, the entire family will be a member of the organization but will receive only one text book and one set of handouts). Advance registration is required.
