COVENTRY, RI — Facing "unfounded" felony sex charges, Nicholas Kettle said he will leave the state Senate and focus on his legal defense. A resignation letter is being delivered to the Senate today, according to news sources. In the brief letter, Kettle said he talked over the situation with his lawyers and family and decided resignation was the course.
He thanked the voters for giving him the opportunity to serve and his supporters. He also criticized the Senate leadership for their failure "to understand the importance of due process."
Kettle has pleaded innocent to the three felony charges he is facing. He is charged with video voyeurism for allegedly sending nude photos of a former girl friend to a childhood pal in New Hampshire. He is also charged with two counts of extortion/ blackmail for allegedly pressuring a former Senate page to have sex with him.
